Will a 40 mm watch suit your wrist?

Look beyond case diameter when choosing the size and feel of your next watch.

White-dial Rumoe Nobel Royal with a mesh bracelet

Case diameter is a useful starting point, but it does not tell the whole story of how a watch will look or feel. The Nobel Royal has a 40 mm case; the strap, case shape and your preferred fit also matter.

Compare with a watch you know

If you already own a watch that feels comfortable, use it as a reference. Check its case diameter, then compare the shape of the lugs and the amount of dial on display. Two watches with the same diameter can make a different impression.

Think about the whole wrist

Look at how the case sits across the top of your wrist and how the strap curves around it. A comfortable fit should let you move your hand naturally. Wrist circumference alone cannot guarantee that a particular case or strap will fit.

Use more than a close-up

Product photographs show the dial and finish clearly, but perspective can make a watch appear larger. Wrist photographs and side views offer useful additional context. Consider whether you want a noticeable accessory or something that sits quietly beneath a sleeve.
